The CINTAS Foundation celebrates 50 years of supporting artists, writers, architects, and composers living and working outside of Cuba.

The legacy of Oscar B. Cintas has fostered the development of Cuban artists outside of Cuba for the last 50 years, promoting the professional development of these artists and the continuity of Cuban traditions in art. The foresight Cintas has resulted in more than 300 fellowships and grants awarded to creative writers, architects, composers, visual artists and filmmakers, many of whom have later achieved national and international renown. The roster of Cintas fellows is a testament to the talent and creativity of the Cubans and their direct descendants who have lived outside the island since 1959. The Cintas Foundation is the oldest entity in the United States dedicated to the support of artists of the Cuban diaspora.

Impact and Legacy celebrates 50 years of the CINTAS Fellows Collection, which is composed of works donated by the fellows in appreciation of the fellowship award. The Collection has grown to be one of the largest bodies of Cuban art outside of Cuba and continues to grow each year with each new fellow. Past recipients include writers Oscar Hijuelos, Maria Irene Fornes and Reinaldo Arenas; visual artists Cundo Bermudez, Baruj Salinas, Luis Gispert, Félix González-Torres, Teresita Fernández, Carlos Alfonso and Andres Serrano; architect Andres Martin Duany; and composers Orlando Garcia and Tania León.

Since 2011, Miami Dade College and the CINTAS Foundation entered into an extended loan to MDC’s Museum of Art + Design of the CINTAS Fellows Collection.

Organized by MDC Museum of Art + Design and curated by Jeremy Mikolajczak with the assistance of Natalya Laskis. Presented in partnership with the CINTAS Foundation.
