Last Vamos a La Playa on WVUM today from 5-7pm
By Laura (of Miami) Sutnick posted May 07, 2012 at 12:25 PM

Que vuleta Miami? Join me today from 5-7pm for my last episode of Vamos a La Playa on WVUM. Vamos a La Playa started as a small italo disco party circa 2006 in a small wine bar near Wynwood. Two years later I started my first master's degree at UM School of Music and instantly got involved at WVUM (a station I had listened to my whole life). At first I was playing all sorts of boogie, italo, and classic house on Vamos, but as nu disco started emerging I began intergrating all those genres and turned the show into what it is today. Four years later Vamos a La Playa has been recognized by the NYtimes.com Blog, DJ Mag, 944 Magazine, Urb.com, The Miami New TImes, and several other blogs and publications putting Miami airwaves on the map. Listeners have told me it's such a staple in Miami radio that I couldn't let it die once I left WVUM so the show will live on here.

Final Lakou Miami and Live In-Studio with Sanba Zao
By Kevin F. Mason posted May 06, 2012 at 10:53 AM

Haitian mizik rasin (roots music) originator Sanba Zao plays live on the program today at 12pm on WVUM 90.5 FM.  Zao, born Lesly Marcellin, started the influential acts Group Ca, Foula, and Sanba Yo in Haiti in the 1980s.  He called on consciousness of Haitian culture as a response to the dictatorship of Jean-Claude Duvalier in the Sanba Movement in the country, pulling on many different styles although firmly rooted in Haitian culture.

Tune in at 12pm to hear a legend perform and tell his story today for the final episode of Lakou Miami.
