Brass, Bounce, and Empowerment: Sounds Imported from New Orleans
By Kevin F. Mason posted Feb 13, 2011 at 03:08 PM

Where y'at, Miami!  This is Your Boy Kev and I'm fresh off the plane from five days in New Orleans.  I went there to present a paper at an academic-like music conference and met with some great artists from that amazing city.  I sat down for BBQ shrimp and pizza with bounce artist Fly Boy Keno whose remix of Lloyd's "Lay It Down" is the biggest hit in New Orleans right now.  DJ Rusty Lazer also showed me some southern hospitality in his Swoon-painted up apartment by the St. Roch neighborhood, where he runs Saturday nights at St. Roch Tavern.  It's really the best place in town to dance and find yo'self a lil freak on a weekend night.

Dirty Beaches: Impressionist Rock Nostalgia on Worn Cassette
By Kevin F. Mason posted Feb 09, 2011 at 04:46 PM

Do you know the sound of AM rock-and-roll radio when you’re driving through a town more rural than yours?
