The last Friday of every month is a cyclist’s delight. Critical Mass is an unofficial bike ride in Miami that is devoted to the celebration of bicycles. Anyone who is willing and able is welcome to join on the monthly ride. Sometimes you may find the occasional skateboarder or rollerblader among the mass, but for the most part a massive amount of bicycles will take to the streets for an evening of fun.
While all are encouraged to participate, safety is a huge priority in the ride. Riders are encouraged to cooperate with drivers, not to antagonize them. The group utilizes a technique called corking to protect ride members from possible car dangers. Corking can be explained as using bikes as barriers to allow ride members to pass by without being interrupted by drivers. It usually only causes a few minutes delay to the drivers and is essential to the safety of the riders.
