By Kathleen Elise posted Oct 05, 2010 at 12:30 PM

Last week, the Miami New Times wrote about our ongoing CMJ contest (check it out here). This morning, WVUM graced their music blog, Crossfade, once more. Blogger Christine Borges mentioned Days Out, when we bring DJs and artists to play lunchtime sets in the UC Patio. This week, the featured acts will be Deaf Poets, Sam Friend, and DJ Phil Minnick. Don't forget to swing by on your lunch break, and check out the New Times write up below:

Run Sevim Run on WVUM! Catch the DJ set Thursday Oct 7 from 7-9pm
By Amber Robertson posted Oct 03, 2010 at 11:35 PM

Originating from Amman, Jordan, Sevim, under the moniker run Sevim run, was born to a household filled with music ranging from Post Disco, 80's metal, and Glam Rock to Arabic Folk and Turkish pop . When she started picking up a pair of decks she blended all of her influences to create the explicit sound described as "Metal Disco". Sevim's focus is on merging fashion, music, art, and multimedia in order to evolve nightlife from the mundane. Due to her theatre/design background Sevim is working to bring an active visual aesthetic to her live sets through multimedia, pedal power generators, and lighting. She is also working with sampler instruments to incorporate a live remix element to her sets. She is currently residing in Miami Beach, Florida where she is producing her first EP to be released in late 2010. WVUM welcomes her to electric kingdom! Hosted by Amber.

Win CMJ Passes and Join the Ranks of Music Journalism With WVUM's Writing Contest

By S. Pajot

"Everybody wants to be a rock star. But eventually you realize that playing power chords, drinking gallons of Jack Daniel's for breakfast, and slutting it up with groupies of every sex (yes, there are more than two) is a totally ridiculous way to make a living. Sure, it pays hella well (roughly $1,000,000,000,000 per year), but who's gonna take you seriously when you're wearing ladies' clothes at 62 like Steven Tyler?

Your solution: Join the ranks of music journalism. But how do you weasel your way onto the scene? Win WVUM's CMJ Concert Review Contest. It doesn't pay, but you'll get a couple of pretty awesome CMJ passes out of it.

Quick! See the cut for details."
