We apologize for our site being down over the weekend! We were not hacked (amen) but our server is being moved. Streaming should be up tomorrow if all goes well. Thanks for sticking through! Streaming does work on campus, though, so if you are determined, you can stream that way…Love, WVUM

Ketchy Shuby Live Performance!

As many of you know, Johnny one of our talented music directors and host of “Freedom for the Funk” has been on vacation for about a month. I Am Your Villian and Johnny collaborated to bring sweet Miami DJ’s to grace our airwaves with their own personal funk collections. Amber and DJ Manuvers have hosted the show with Manuvers and Joel Meinholz coordinating weekly DJ’s. Every week brings some new flavor to WVUM, whether it be Mr. Brown with Brazilian Funk, Tom Laroc brining in rare records, Induce doing his thaaang, or most recently, bringing in live bands. As host of Electric Kingdom, I’ve had my share of like 6 people packed into our studio before, but not including a bass guitar, drums, keyboard, sax, large monitor, a mixer, and a turntable. ANNDDDD a full drum set in our hallway. It was quite a night on August 3 during Freedom for the Funk, indeed. Ketchy Shuby graced our studios with their live nu-funk sound. It sounded so good in here, it prompted Manuvers girlfriend Sammy to text him and ask if it was a live song or a recorded one….LIVE BABY.

Clive Tanaka Y Su Cassette Tape
By Laura (of Miami) Sutnick posted Aug 03, 2010 at 12:57 AM

We normally review two postal bins full of crappy CDs per week at WVUM. 90.5% of it is usually junk from teen bop pop star wannabees who send us glamor shots in bedazzled envelopes, promo company albums with 1-sheets lying about what bands they might resemble, and miscellaneous burnt CDs labeled with Sharpie scribbles. Today I received a cassette tape. Such joy.

The packaging instantly caught my attention (I’ve been kicking myself in the ass for throwing it away). The whole thing kept getting better as I opened the box, the tape itself looked like something from 1987 and then the music… good stuff. I even had to pull out my Walkman. The whole experience was fantastic and I felt like Clive knew exactly what he was doing when he sent it.

I really can’t find much info on Clive Tanaka or his Orquestra. Don’t be fooled by the name though, it sounds nothing like Señor Coconut or Ray Barretto….
