Music Director Kevin Sands writes about the music from Pete & Pete!
Never heard of Polaris? That's because they consisted entirely of the members of another, different band called Miracle Legion. In fact, Polaris only did one album, and it compiled music from the Nickelodeon TV show "The Adventures of Pete and Pete."
But what an album it is! One of the first motifs one may notice is a reverence for space and the space program. This is noticeable even from the first song, "Hey Sandy," which happened to be the theme of "The Adventures of Pete & Pete":
The sound of the album is a sort of retro-jangle pop, which evokes an early 80s, R.E.M. kind of feel. It sounds, for lack of a better word, nostalgic. Take song two on the album, "She is Staggering." It's slow, bright guitars seem, to me, to be ruminating on the past, probably a relationship. In fact, even though the style is different, the content of this song may not even be that out of place on Arcade Fire's The Suburbs:
I'll let you explore the rest of the album on your own, but I'll leave you with one of the album's best tracks, "Saturnine." Ah, the 90s.
