Goldfrapp: Tales of Us

By Ally Marcus posted Mar 30, 2014 at 12:57 PM

Goldfrapp did a special screening of short films based on their latest album Tales of Us followed by a special live performance and DJ/Staffer Ally Marcus got to see it at Sunset Place Tuesday.

Goldfrapp has taken their latest album to new heights with the screenings of Goldfrapp: Tales of Us. The screenings consist of five short films scored with songs from the album and they are followed by a remarkable live performance in a studio in London.

The short films were amazing. As both a film student and a fan of Goldfrapp, this screening left me reeling (no pun intended). The shots were artfully crafted not only to create a beautiful picture, but also to move the story along and to highlight the highs and lows of the music. The use, or disuse, of color was especially powerful. It created an emotional resonance within the audience that propelled the story and enhanced the soundtrack.

Goldfrapp is incredibly talented and this performance only emphasized that. The filmmakers allowed the audience an up close and personal look at every musician and every instrument that goes into the performance. It was a very intimate experience. At my screening, the audience even applauded after quite a few of the songs because the experience was so moving. I genuinely hope I get the chance to see Goldfrapp live in the future because just seeing them perform in the cinema was downright incredible.
