Graffiti Wannabes Vandalize Wynwood and The Vagabond

By Laura (of Miami) Sutnick posted Dec 03, 2010 at 02:37 PM

Over the past couple of years Miami's been blessed with an influx of amazing murals throughout our art ghetto, which have made locals more and more proud of their home town. Primary Flight, The Goldman Group and other organizations/ venues have treated us to a Wynwood wonderland created by artists such as Shepard Fairey, Barry McGee, Invader, Ron English, and Kenny Scharf amongst others. Jerry Stecca, Serge, Ahol, and Locastro are some of  our local favorites as well. It's true that lots of these guys have their roots in graffiti but they've always done it with taste and class.

A few days ago a few anti-Basel douche bags had the brilliant idea to tag their horrendously ugly try-hard graffiti names on the outside of the Vagabond, the front of the Barry McGee building on 24th + NW 2nd Ave, and a few other beautiful murals. There's no excuse for this, no empathy, no sensitivity to the resentment they must feel because no one wants to show their crappy work. The point these idiots are making is futile considering the magnitude and importance of the walls they chose to destroy. No one thinks it's cool, there's no street cred involved, and the wannadouche's claim to fame is an act that has enraged the entire community. Luckily the Vagabond's kick ass security team managed to capture the idiot bro-dogs on video. Please take a second  to look at the images and let us, the Vagabond, or Sweat Records know if you recognize either of the culprits. We promise to keep your name anonymous and most importantly we got your back.
