INTERVIEW: Jontti at 7pm

By Johnny “Soul Brotha/Jona” Kornman posted Oct 08, 2011 at 01:19 PM

Tune in at 7pm for an interview with psychadelic-nusoul-trip hop wonder JONTTI.  His new album Twirligig out now on Stones Throw, as well as in our rotation.  Catch him alongside other VUM favorites at theDAY VENT starting at 4pm at the stage.  More info after the jump.

Those familiar with STONES THROW have come to expect only the finest in genre bending, sample heavy, groovy releases, which include those of James Pants to Dam-Funk.  JONTTI is no exception, bringing an exciting blend of tribalistic beats, psychedelic experimentation, and vintage sounding soulful grooves.  Among various musical influences, the artists cites filmmaker Normal McLaren as a key source of inspiration for his debut Twirligig.  Below is 1952's "Neighbors", to give listeners a visual sense of where JONTTI draws inspiration:

Christina and Jona will be asking JONTTI for more on how stop-motion experimental film equates to his contagious sounds.  Besides tuning in at 7pm, you can catch JONTTI live at DAY VENT at the Stage alongside other 'VUM favorites Ketchy Shuby, Manuvers, Induce, Benton, and many more!
