James Jiler + friends join host Hyan F. live in the studio to talk about Urban Greenworks, a non-profit dedicated to improving the environmental and physical well-being of under-served communities through access to healthy foods, at 2pm.
Today at 2pm, NFP returns for the second show of the summer season. We'll be speaking to the folks over at UrbanGreenworks. Their organization looks to implement sustainable healthy living within our inner-city and low-income neighborhoods in particular.
These issues are some that have been targeted by First Lady Michelle Obama; Combating obesity with fresh produce. However, it's not without its critics. The questioning of "food deserts" and whether or not they truly exist have been brought up by critics. The Miami Herald most recently published a critical story on the subject here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/05/20/2841329/the-problems-with-food-deserts.html#storylink=misearch .
They story and the critiques aren't being well received by these organizations, and today we'll hear why. Join us as one of these non-profits tells us why they do what they do, and why they believe that simply living healthier can lead to living better.
Let us hear from you!
