winter MUSIC conference

What to expect when you’re expecting WMC.

SOoooOOOoooo here at WVUM we absolutely cannot believe WMC is around the corner. In time and space.  We feel privileged to live in the city where Winter Music Conference was born and raised to the phenomena it has become.  This year seems abuzz in a different way, in an excitingly different way, with a lot more home grown music taking the stage at conference parties around the city, rather than fancy big name DJs.  Here at the station we’ve been working hand in hand to let Miami know of the coolest things going on, and we’ve met a lot of really awesome people dedicated to good music!  It makes us excited and we know they’ve pulled together an amazing Winter Music Conference for the people!!  WVUM is especially excited to be helping to inaugurate a new home-grown music venue, Grand Central, on 7th St and N Miami Ave. The opening party is Wednesday the 25th with West Palm Beach’s Million Young, Nite Jewel, Tanlines, Keenhouse, Palm Trees, and Rbts Win.  Speaking of homegrown, our Laura (of Miami) will be spinning with Team Rojas. Thursday daytime the Vinyl Collective returns to the Standard with some of Miami’s best local DJs trading, selling, and displaying their vinyl collections (who knows who will stop through??).  White Room is having a gnarly dubstep party on Thursday night - Smog vs. Basshead, and the guys from Pirate Stereo have turned the old Studio A into “WMC Safehouse” and they promise to take care of us with filthy mixes and dirty beats including sets by Ayad and Jeff from Passion Pit.  But there aren’t enough blogs in the world to list EVERYTHING going on during Winter Music Conference, including the crazy pool parties (we pick HARD pool party) and early AM breakfast ragefests (All you can drink Mimosas every morning at the Lily Leon Hotel on Collins?!), but you can be sure that Miami best locals places will be poppin’ off.  And what about the less frequented locals favorites - Bardot, Fox’s?  These might be the perfect respites if you are looking for something low key- they are bound to be poppin’ cuz everything is during WMC, but not everyone and their mother knows how to get there.

Either way, the vibes are sure to be good and with the infusion of energy from out of town, WMC will make Miami locals proud to call this home.  Don’t hate, get out there and hear something!! There is a party for everyone and ain’t nothin’ wrong with cuttin’ loose once in a while!

If you see us out, be sure to holler at your favorite radio station!
