As Told By: WVUM Wins Woodie
By Kathleen Elise posted Mar 08, 2011 at 04:10 PM

We were told to expect a call at 2pm. Yes or no. Amber, our illustrious general
manager, sent out a mass email inviting everyone on staff to gather in the studio for

math) were crammed into the studio and leaking into the hallway.

Kristi House is easily one of the local organizations I most respect. They strive to end child sexual abuse in Miami-Dade country, and one of their representatives, Maria Rodriguez, joined me in the studio for an in-depth interview a few weeks ago. You can listen to the interview in its entirety here and visit Kristi House's Web site here.

The walks take place worldwide and all profits benefit Autism Speaks, an organization that provides funding for research on autism, raises awareness about the disorder and helps the families of those who are affected by it.

Last Friday during Artopia, the Miami New Times announced the deserving winners of MasterMind 2011. The competition awards $1,500 grants to three individuals who “express a unique vision that helps us view our landscape and soundscape afresh.” The nine finalists included film makers, artists, and DJs, from WVUM’s frequent guest Black Bobby to one of the performers at our own Synthesis festival, Panic Bomber. This year’s prizes went to Matt Priera of Roofless Records, Jorge Rubiera of Animal Tropical/Can’t Stop/Down Home Southernaires/Pygmy/Rottweiler Farm, and Christy Gast of art scene fame.
