Electric Kingdom Live with Sean Drake 7-20-11
By Duncan Ross posted Jul 20, 2011 at 09:56 AM

In the beginning there was Jack, and Jack had a groove, and that groove tainted the minds of young electronic music lovers everywhere. One of those was Sean Drake from the roller rink DJ booth. A long time staple in the Miami electronic music scene, Sean was behind some of the best parties at the biggest times in South Beach history. Back before Miami had ironed out whether it was a breaks or trance loving town Sean was holding down a residency at the infamous NFA (No F@$™king Around) parties still lauded by closet JNCO hiding adults everywhere. Prior to relocating to Miami, his early exposure to the likes of the Northern Exposure compilation duo Sasha and John Digweed, Chemical Brothers, Adonis, Lords of Acids, Todd Terry, Bomb the Bass, Dave Seaman and others would lead him to begin a relationship with the UK's Kinetic label that would see some of the UK's big room sound giant's like Dave Ralph and eventually Paul Oakenfold hit the Shadow Lounge, and we all know what happened from there.
But watching the electronic music scene from these shores was not enough for Sean, so he offed to the UK to produce music with Dave Ralph, Rui da Silva, and work at the premier club in London at the time, Home. The euro experience at clubs like The End and Back to Basics, as well as Amsterdam, Ibiza, Portugal and more cemented a love for the more defined and refined music culture in Europe.
Upon his return Sean held a 2 year residency at the school bus laden Pawn Shop in downtown Miami, arguably starting the mashup culture that we hear all around the place.
You may have caught Sean opening for the Bedrock label owner John Digweed a few months ago at Vagabond with his harmonic mixing and tight beatmatching skills, so lest you think that's some PR bs, I wrote this. So, tune in to Electric Kingdom Live on Thursday from 7-9PM, Miami's long-time electronic music home.
Rock it don't stop it
