This week on VAMOS A LA PLAYA
By Laura (of Miami) Sutnick posted Jan 30, 2011 at 08:57 PM

My boy Kevin who recently joined me as Co-music Director has been itching to throw down some rare 70s and 80s jams on the WVUM airwaves. There's no better spot for that than on Vamos A La Playa so I invited him on this Monday (2.1.11) for a little guest set.

Kevin (aka Tall Jamal) is the former resident DJ at the Sway at the Dragon’s Den in New Orleans and Go Shout Plenty! at Trophy Bar in Brooklyn.  This Monday, he’s poppin’ bottles with the likes of Evelyn “Champagne” King and SKYY to get you hot, then dropping some oft-neglected dark wave and cold wave to cool you down.  Disco gamut on the beach con Jamal ñoo Alto!

Remember Vamos is on every MONDAY from 5-7pm. You can grab playlists and download past episodes on lauraofmiami.com

ELECTRIC KINGDOM: Dave Betamax on 1.27.11 from 9:30-11PM
By Amber Robertson posted Jan 25, 2011 at 05:37 PM

Dave Betamax is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, a man that sits in a dark room beyond an unsolvable maze. Dave has been producing and DJ'ing since 2002. Spanning many genres from Ambient to Jungle and everywhere in between. Smut + Bass Records was founded by Betamax in 2009 and now has a roster of many talented artists and is always expanding. Playing alongside artists like King Cannibal, 16 Bit, AK1200, Prefuse 73, DJ Chefal, Distance, Von D, Nick Argon and more, nothing phases this robot. Now he is releasing his debut album, Dissolved on his imprint of Smut + Bass. Dissolved is a journey into a cold, lifeless town filled with the ghosts of ex-lovers and friends. Touching upon Future Garage with hints of Techno and Dub, Dissolved is a critique on human behavior but also a look into the life of a robot trying to find his way. Dissolved is for those who are fans of Aphex Twin, Burial, 2562, Phaeleh, Martyn, Shackleton and Scuba.

Dissolved releases on Smut+Bass Records February 1st on iTunes, Amazon and in your local record shop.
