JP Presents: Classical Lunch Progamming Philosophy

by Justin Pressman

In programming Classical Lunch, I have come up with some fundamental principals which will permeate all my shows. Listeners that consistently follow week to week will begin familiarizing themselves with certain composers, repertoire, artists, styles, thematic ideas, and time periods and will gain a greater understanding of the context to the music that is featured on Classical Lunch.

1. CURATING INTERESTING COMBINATIONS OF NEW AND OLDER WORKS

2. RARE HISTORIC RECORDINGS [EX: RICHARD STRAUSS CONDUCTING STRAUSS OR LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI]

3. MINI-FESITVALS WHICH TAKE A DEEPER LOOK AT SPECIFIC STYLES, NATIONALITIES, GROUPS OF COMPOSERS.

4. LARGE SCALE FESTIVALS WHICH TAKE THE DEEPEST, MOST INDEPTH LOOK AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF STYLES AND COMPOSERS THROUGHOUT A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME.

5. PROGRAMMING FROM SHOW TO SHOW IS CONNECTED THROUGH THREAD OF COMPOSER, REPERTOIRE, ARTISTS, THEMATIC IDEA, OR TIME PERIOD.

My mission is to be a curator, who protects the past and ushers in the best and most reflective works from the present.

I also want to present an equal distribution of genres: chamber, orchestral, opera, concertos, solo works; there is nothing off limits here.

My programing reflects a specific audience here in Miami.

Please don’t underestimate how difficult music can be to listen to. It can be relaxing, yes; but also extremely provoking, profound, and challenging. In radio, like an art gallery or TV (and unlike a concert hall), if you don’t like what you are listening to you can just change the channel and escape. With that in mind, I present only works that I truly love and want to share. Everything on my program (and I mean EVERYTHING) has something very special, that I feel that all audiences would gain from listening to.
