COUNTERPOINT: Ambassador Charles Cobb

On Friday April 27, 2012 @1PM, our Counterpoint co-hosts will be joined by former U.S. Ambassador to Iceland and former Undersecrtary of Commerce Charles Cobb in a WVUM Counterpoint profile. As the previous chairman and CEO of Arvida Corporation and Disney Development Company, Ambassador Cobb's extensive career and achievements has proven him to be a generational leader and he has been recognized with awards like: Order of the Falcon Grand Cross Star from the Nation of Iceland (Iceland’s highest honor), The Florida Council of 100 Governor’s Award, the NCCJ Silver Medallion Award and the South Florida Achievement of the Decade Award. COUNTERPOINT: Ambassador Sameh Shoukry and U.S Drop in Freedom of the Press

On Friday @ 1PM, Wes and Michael will be joined by the UM's College Democrats President Gaurav Dihman to discuss the U.S's drop in Press Freedom Index following 2011, The Occupy Year. The eruption of the Occupy movement in September launched a battle between the government and the governed that America has not seen in decades. Needless to say covering the protests of the 99% have been a favorite for topic for reports. But how police and public officials have handled reporters and protestors has caused Reporters Without Borders to drop U.S' Press Freedom Index. Michael and Wes will also uncover an interview with Egyptian Ambassador Sameh Shoukry, who stopped by the University of Miami to discuss Egypt's Democracy and the Arab Spring. 


COUNTERPOINT: Ascension of Kim-Jong Un

On Friday @ 1pm, Our Counterpoint hosts will discuss the current change of power in North Korea. The dawn of 2012 has also seen the rise of a new leader for North Korea, Kim-Jong Un. For the past decade America has had there eyes set on the reign of Kim-Jong Ill especially during the late dictators nuclear pursuits (similar to Iran today). On December 30th, the decade came to an end and the reign of Kim-Jong Un saw it's inauguration with the welcoming of a new year. Jessica Zucker will join on-air to discuss what the rise of a new dictator means for the U.S and the world.

COUNTERPOINT: U.S vs. The Internet Round 1! - SOPA/PIPA

COUNTERPOINT: The Race for Miami-Dade’s Mayoral Office

Sunday June 26th @11am, our Counterpoint co-hosts, Michael and Vinny, will be discussing the race for the Mayor of Miami and the election next Tuesday June 28th. Our co-hosts will be joined on Sunday by Barbara Walters who will be discussing what the county needs in a new Mayor after the recall of former Mayor Alvarez. 


COUNTERPOINT: Financial Legislation helping America w/ Michael S. Barr

June 19 @ 11pm, COUNTERPOINT WVUM's Political Talk show will be speaking with Former Assistant Secretary of Treasury for Financial Institutions and current professor at the University of Michigan Michael S. Barr. Our co-hosts will be speaking with Assistant Secretary Barr about his experiences in Washington from being an advisor for President Clinton and Former Secretary of Treasury Robert Rubin, to being called back to Washington in 2009 by President Obama to help solve the current state of the economy facing Washington. The interview will focus specifically on the Dodd-Frank Act and Assistant Secretary Barr' s role as one of the bill's architects. The Dodd-Frank Act is called the largest financial system overhaul since the New Deal, and President Obama has even said, " This reform will help foster innovation..." COUNTERPOINT: The Future of Health Care with President Donna Shalala

On Friday May 6th @ 1pm, Former Secretary of Health and Human Services under the Clinton Administration and current President of the University of Miami Donna Shalala will join Wes, Vinny, and Michael on "Counterpoint" to discuss the Future of Health Care for America. With the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act having taken its first effects in March of last year, the United States is preparing for some big changes down the road. However, few understand what the 1,018-page Health Care bill passed on March 23, 2010 has in store for Americans. President Shalala will discuss what to expect come January 1, 2014 when a large number of the bill's provisions come into effect. Friday April 29th @ 1pm. Wes, Vinny, and Michael will be sitting down with President of the Former Democratic Hispanic Caucus of Florida (DHCF) and current President of the Miami-Dade DHCF Chapter MIllie Herrera. Modeling after fellow Republican Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona, Florida Governor Scott has the perspective of bringing the Arizona laws to Florida among other laws. Though the Governor sees a better Florida with these laws enacted, many of predicted a worse future for Florida if Governor Scott gets his way. President Obama has also denounced these laws. Along with the Arizona Laws, our hosts will be discussing the Dream Act. Tune in Friday!
