That's right guys, Tiffany Roth, lead singer of Midnight Magic will be calling the station at 5pm during VAMOS A LA PLAYA for a little Q & A. For those of you who don't know about Midnight Magic, think of that "Beam Me Up" Disco song we always play on air. The group will be opening up for Cut Copy (along with Washed Out) this Saturday at Grand Central. VAMOS!!!

The brainchild of veteran producers Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, Metro Area was born out of the pair's somewhat dichotomous love for both the old moods of R&B, disco and boogie and the more cutting-edge sound of innovative house and techno. Metro Area brings back the soulful experimentation of the early club classics, mixing live and electronic instruments. Simultaneously, the mood and minimalism of more recent dance music forms creep into the mix: Detroit's cold futurism, Chicago's abstract track-modes, and the warmth of New York and New Jersey's deep house.

Metro Area will be performing Tuesday 6/28 @ The Electric Pickle. This is one of my FAVORITE groups ever, don't miss it!

Disco daddy Jacques Renault will be interviewed today on WVUM's Vamos a La Playa at 5:30pm in anticipation for his performance this Friday at Bardot. The first half of today's show will feature a disco mix by DFA's Jacques Renault and the second half will showcase a mix by local NIGHTDRIVE DJ Carlos Llanos (who will be opening for Jacques on Friday). Eli is a sick Disco/ House producer, remixer, and DJ who will be rocking the decks this Thursday at Bardot for Nightdrive's One Year Anniversary Party. Today Vamos a La Playa welcomes Gigamesh for a very special disco set.

Gigamesh has been making his mark for several years in dance clubs around the world.  In addition to lending his studio expertise to DiscoTech, he has had considerable attention for his bootleg remixes of artists like Lykke Li, Animal Collective, and Radiohead.  Those projects resulted in being hired to remix Mike Posner’s  ’Cooler Than Me’ in late 2009.  The Gigamesh version was ultimately shortened into a radio single, and chosen to be the first single on Posner’s debut album with J Records.  It went on to sell over two million copies and hit the #5 position on Billboard, jump starting Posner’s career as a top 40 artist.

Gigamesh is also a member of Señor Stereo, a disco influenced live-electronics group.  They released ‘The Unintentional EP’ in June of 2010 on Slow Roast Records.  It has been well received by DJs and dance music audiences.

Gigamesh will be throwing down some old and new jams on the WVUM Disco/ electronic throwback show which takes place every Monday from 5-7 pm.

My boy Kevin who recently joined me as Co-music Director has been itching to throw down some rare 70s and 80s jams on the WVUM airwaves. There's no better spot for that than on Vamos A La Playa so I invited him on this Monday (2.1.11) for a little guest set.

Kevin (aka Tall Jamal) is the former resident DJ at the Sway at the Dragon’s Den in New Orleans and Go Shout Plenty! at Trophy Bar in Brooklyn.  This Monday, he’s poppin’ bottles with the likes of Evelyn “Champagne” King and SKYY to get you hot, then dropping some oft-neglected dark wave and cold wave to cool you down.  Disco gamut on the beach con Jamal ñoo Alto!

He'll be chatting it up with Laura (of Miami) while Stravinsky (Team Rojas/ Nightdrive) throws down Disco and Boogie on the decks.
