Alex “Far Out” Faron

Hey, I’m Alex Faron. New York born, Miami raised. I love all kinds of music and that’s why I got involved here at the radio. I play blues-rock guitar and am majoring in Audio Engineering. I was elected Head Engineer of WVUM Spring 2012.

Alex Lal (DJ Lolz)

What’s up? My name is Alex Lal a.k.a DJ Lolz - Keeping it funny here at WVUM 90.5 The Voice. I’m a pretty funny guy (at least in my opinion), pretty chill, and always looking for something good to listen to.

Hey, you can call me Brian. I love pazz, jop, soul, folk, anything left of the dial, and the people that like this weird stuff too. And, you know, life’s absurd, so enjoy it!

Cameron McBroom-Fitterer (aka MC Broom)

Cameron McBroom-Fitterer was born and raised in South Florida. His last name is frighteningly long so he usually just shortens it to McBroom. He enjoys listening to, and playing, music (he plays violin and guitar), as well as drawing and very brief walks on the beach. He has an affinity for random trivia, apple is his favorite flavor of fruit juice, and he is convinced there will never be a video game as great as Ocarina of Time. That is all.

Chris Bowie

Hello all, I’m a jazz trombone major at the Frost School of Music and the radio has always interested me. I have been told that I have the perfect voice for radio so I figured that I should become a DJ. There is not much else to say except that I love fried chicken, a good party and good music!

Daniel Chapman

Hey everyone, I’m Daniel, but you can call me whatever you want. Born and raised in beautiful Miami and a WVUM listener since I was in high school. I’m an Eagle Scout and so I love the outdoors, when the weather’s nice that is. I joined WVUM because I want to learn more about all the wonderful music that exists out there. That being said, I’m quite excited to start DJing so I can share the gift of music with all our listeners.

Much love!

Demetris Antoniou

Demetris is a student at the University of Miami majoring in aerospace engineering. He is from Cyprus, a small island in the Mediterranean. He enjoys being a dj at the station and likes the whole atmosphere.
His main hobby is finding different hobbies each time doing it for a few months and then dropping it to find another. He hopes that one day he will have his own factory that makes something as long as it is a factory.

Dorothy Hindman

Dr. Dorothy Hindman’s (b. 1966) work is performed extensively in the U.S., and throughout Eastern and Western Europe.  Critics have called her music ‘intense, gripping, and frenetic’, ‘sonorous and affirmative’ and ‘music of terrific romantic gesture.’  Awards and recognition include the 2005 Almquist Choral Composition Award, a 2004 Nancy Van de Vate International Composition Prize for Opera, a 2004 Winner of the International Society of Bassists Solo Composition Competition, an Alabama State Council on the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship, and the NACUSA Young Composers Competition.  Commissions for 2010 include Prothalamia for the Empire City Men’s Chorus (NYC), and The Road to Damascus for the Caraval Quartet (NYC).  Other recent commissions include Sursum Corda for the a cappella choir of the same name, The Wall Calls to Me to accompany a visual installation by artist Sally Johnson, Nine Churches for the Corona Guitar Kvartet and Lithuanian Sinfonia, Tapping the Furnace for Evelyn Glennie, Stuart Gerber and Scott Deal, and The Pillow Book for the Goliard Ensemble (NYC).  Her residencies include a Seaside Escape to Create Residency in 2009, Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome, Italy in the Fall of 2005, resident composer at the Visby International Centre for Composers, Sweden, 2005, and Composer-in-Residence for the Goliard Ensemble, 2009.  A native of Miami, Florida, Hindman taught music theory and composition at Birmingham-Southern College for fifteen years before returning in 2010.  She is currently a member of the adjunct faculty at Florida International University and University of Miami, and is a freelance composer and writer for the Miami Herald. Her music is available on the Living Artist, Vox Novus, Capstone, and ERM Media labels.

Everett Torpey

Hey there Miami, Everett Torpey here. I’m a pretty simple guy thats all about having fun. You know, get a couple of cocktails in me, start a fire in someone’s kitchen. Maybe go to SeaWorld, take my pants off. Anyways, if you’re looking for someone to take the first jump off the roof into the pool, or prank phone call your best friends mom, i’m your guy. I love music more than oxygen and enjoy playing bass, guitar, drums, and singing. I am very restless and can’t stand sitting around doing nothing for more than 5 minutes. I am always down to go longboarding, sailing, fishing, cliff jumping or back you up on whatever bad idea you have in mind. My dream job is to live in LA working in A&R for a major record label and surfing every weekend. I live life like a videogame; everyday is a new chance to beat yesterdays high score. As the wise Red Hot Chili Peppers once said, “It’s better to regret something you did, than something you didn’t do” and if I were a president, I would definitely approve that message.

Gabriel Sawich

My name is Gabriel. I like to climb things and get crunk.

Gabriela Santos

I’m horrible at making my own bio’s, it reminds me of the myspace age. But I’ll give it a try.

People call me Gaby, but most notably gerbilia. Don’t let my looks fool you, I’m 20 years old. But I will probably look 16 for the rest of my life. I’m also a Miami native, a sophomore here at UM. And…................ yeah.

(Y)(;,,wink(Y)  <——- Zoidberg

Gabriella Hirsch

Gaby lived in many different places including Germany, Texas, and Virginia before ending up in Florida. Starting training in piano at age 5, then picking up guitar later, she has been a musician almost her whole life. She usually performs classical work but also enjoys doing pop and jazz. This is her second year in the Frost School of Music and first year with WVUM. In her free time, which doesn’t really exist, she goes to concerts, watches Food Network, and tragically attempts to learn Spanish.

Hiram Aparicio

Hiram Aparicio is an alien abductee who has hopelessly lost his mind. He has developed an irrational affinity for sounds and his aspirations are of trans-dimensional cartography. You may often find him flying through the multiverse and mapping out the underlying worlds. If not then he will probably be jamming out with other musicians and/or feeling good. He is an English major specializing in creative writing(poetry in particular) and minoring in philosophy. He’s been DJing at WVUM for about a year and loves it. He also loves YOU! ^_^

Hyan Freitas

Name: Hyan, like Ryan but with a “H”

As of April 28,2012, Hyan is the News and Public Affairs Director at WVUM.  Although he is also a WVUM DJ, he started out as a newscaster and truly loves giving WVUM listeners the latest news and headlines. He also writes for the The Miami Hurricane and is also the Media Liason for UMTV, UM’s award-winning TV station.

Newscaster by day, musician by night.  Hyan also has a musical side which comes from the fact that he plays in a local band called Sacred Fire.  Although based out of Broward County (Plantation, Fl), it’s agreed by all in the band Miami gigs are the best. Dale.

Jackson Alexander Parodi

Ahoy, partners! I am Jackson Alexander Parodi. Things I like including listening to music, drinking orange juice, making ping-pong balls out of TNT, and playing the tuba. If you need a cat who you can talk to about your problems, be them emotional, lateral, or electrical, I be your man! Being able to supply you, the listeners, with quality programming here at WVUM is something that makes me happy and allows me to sleep easier. (eight hours, baby!) So strap in, buckle your seatbelts, and fasten any other personal safety devices because it’s always wild and always fun. Happy trails!

Jamie Reina

Hey my name is Jamie Reina. I was born in Boston, Mass. before moving to San Diego, CA after two years and living out the majority of my life in California. I am a freshman this year at the University of Miami and was accepted into the Spring Semester and am focusing on studying medicine. I became a DJ because I love music. I believe that music is a part of everyone and plays a significant role in our lives. I believe we all naturally have rhythm because our HEART gives off a BEAT. Anyways, my favorite music genre would have to be Hip-Hop. I live off of Hip-Hop, old school and new school. My favorite artists are Biggie Smalls, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar, and J.Cole. There are several other artist I listen too but those are few. In the future I want to host the Hip Hop Shop specialty show if I can because I want to expose listeners to good non-mainstream hip-hop. Salsa is another music genre I like to listen to and its probably because of my background. I am Colombian. I grew up listening to salsa being played around the house and its just stayed with me ever since. So if you hear salsa on the radio, it’s probably me.

Josh Rice

Josh Rice is a busy man. He’s a licensed Florida Alligator Trapper. For real. He enjoys animating, writing, reading, and playing video games like all those other silly college kids. He’s the Production and PSA Director, so ask him about anything that’s not music. Or music too, he may just not know the answer.

Julia Webster

I have a specialty show now! Check out SEARCHPARTY where I feature a different, obscure subgenre of music every week. I’m getting people who are out of the loop, in the loop. Get to know those genres people listen to but know nothing about! I cover the history, who pioneered it, the basic characteristics, and who’s making it now. If you have any comments or suggestions, lemmie know on my blog! [jointhesearchparty.tumblr.com]

Lemmie know of any genres you think need some attention! Or add to our database of knowledge of music I’ve already covered!

I keep a ticket stub from a BMSR concert i went to in her wallet always, cause they the greatest.
I love cats, cause they the greatest.

I reckon it was Arvella Gray, the blind protest singer from Chicago.  She first taught me the blues, four…about five years back.  I also played piano with Bobby Vee.  I would’ve been a millionaire if I stayed with him.

Meghan McGee

Hello there, I am a silver-tongued native Chicagoan (actually from the city) born into the cold, raised by the snow-covered streets and frosty music scene. You can call me Meg or McFearless if you’re really looking to get on my good side. I enjoy long bike rides along the lakefront, making my way to the front of the pit at concerts, and sitting in coffee shops pretending to be reading the latest issue of Financial Times. I’m a punk rocker at heart, preppy girl by nature, thug for life.
