Our Quarantine Coffee And Tea Routines

While at home, having routines is still important and comforting! And to most, having a coffee or tea or caffeinated beverage to drink in the morning is part of that. We were inspired by Bon Appetit Test Kitchen to post an article regarding our favorite morning brews, so read on to see our favorite morning picks!

Enjoy!

Caroline Whyte- I grew up drinking irish breakfast tea; however, upon entering college, I became a full fledged coffee addict. I now drink coffee everyday (or if not coffee, sometimes I drink some matcha….. or monster….). Sooo, I made a mini vlog that walks you through how I make my morning iced coffee, and I love it so much! Enjoy :)).

Katie Lesh- Being known as the WVUM hater of coffee is a big role to fill. And I take that role seriously by drinking my chai with oat milk any chance I get.  I cannot give up my hot chai latte but, sometimes Miami is too warm for that so, I settle for iced. It has become such a comfort drink for me because I grew up with my dad always drinking it every night so, that became my routine over the years as well.

Alec Chao- Caffeine’s kinda central to my daily routine, so I’ve been making coffee throughout the day to keep myself awake. We have two one-cup-a-pod machines in our kitchen between which I alternate, but I almost always start with a cup from our Nespresso machine as soon as I wake up. The coffee is a lot stronger and tends to foam up, providing a texture akin to a latte without needing to go through the effort of steaming milk. Sometime in the later afternoon I’ll brew a cup from our Keurig machine, either of coffee or of chai, depending in how late in the day it is and how long I plan on being up in the evening.

Cream has to go first for a pour length of about one to two seconds. There’s some chart out there that places coffee and toast on an alphanumeric scale based on darkness. I think I’m a 3C? Anyway, if you let the coffee drip into the cream, it tends to mix in on its own; prevents you from having to dirty a spoon or use a stirrer. Per Alex Delany of the Bon Appétit Test Kitchen I have to drink my coffee in a novelty mug, so I rotate between three or four mugs: a ceramic one from Asheville, North Carolina with an elephant on it; a New York Times Crossword mug; a enamelware mug from Detroit record label Ghostly International; and a mug with Seinfeld quotes on the side.

Katy Hook- The most important part of my coffee routine is having mocha; throughout my childhood I don’t think I loved any flavor more than I did chocolate. I usually brew it with a classic coffee maker just like my dad did. I love adding my vanilla oat milk creamer, and despite my first love of iced coffee, I switch to hot coffee every so often just to mix it up.

Jared Harwin- Nespresso. Frothed almond milk. Truvia. *occasional flavoring syrup, mocha is preferred *

Rachelle Barrett- My go-to coffee is Café Bustelo, 3/4 black and 1/4 french vanilla cream, no sugar.

Elliott Cleven- I’m gonna go with green tea. It’s called double green, and it has green tea leaves and matcha powder!

Jamilla Philson- Ooh I love Matcha too!
