Meet Kaywon Smith, an up-and-coming Hip Hop artist from Maryland with big plans. His current conquest? “HOLLA”.
Kaywon states, "HOLLA is going to be a whole series. I’ll be dropping a new song every week for 20 weeks! (This first song) is gonna kick it all off.” The first track released is a soliloquy packed into just one minute and thirty seven seconds of music.
“This tune captures a personal sentiment for the artist: “A common theme in my life is inconsistency and drug addiction, so I drew on those thoughts for the track intro“. He continues, “I knew I needed to write about something personal and deep because the sample I used to produce the record was really heavy.”
Atmospheric instrumentals introduce an introspective female vocal, which Kaywon says represents his conscience, “I had Amanda basically talk to me, (her voice representing) my conscious (mind).”
At the beat drop, he starts speaking more externally, about how he can impact the world and what role he should play within it. “The rest of the track was basically a statement to the world of how I would and should carry myself.”
